About Constructing The Future
Through investment in Housing Market Renewal, the Elevate programme will have a significant impact on the construction industry in Pennine Lancashire with increased demand for skilled local labour, qualified contractors and suppliers. To ensure that these demands are met to the benefit of local residents and businesses, the Constructing The Future project has been launched by Elevate. Constructing The Future offers residents the opportunity to improve skills, gain qualifications, improve employability and access employment.
The aim of Constructing The Future is to identify and tackle the barriers to training and employment opportunities and seeks to address the needs of under-represented groups including mature workers, women, and people from the ethnic minority communities. The project is also charged to address the professional and trade skills requirements for Pennine Lancashire and raise the profile of the construction industry locally as an exciting and stimulating career option.
The project intends to maximise existing opportunities in the area, while pursuing new and innovative initiatives to help local people into work. A vital aspect of the initiative will be to equip local employers with the capacity to work on local contracts using best practice principles to develop safe and sustainable building practices.
These include developing attractive and accessible accreditation frameworks and providing employer incentives to address local labour market issues.
Importantly, Elevate’s Housing Market Renewal programme will give rise to demand for new and different materials, especially in relation to sustainable housing materials. By maximising the opportunity for local companies to join the Elevate supply chain this will create the demand to train local people in the associated manufacturing, installation and maintenance skills and generate employment as a result.
Constructing The Future recognises the need for local contractors to adopt the principles of partnership working and align themselves with the aims and objectives of Elevate. The local contracting industry can invest in training and apprenticeships in the knowledge that a sustainable and guaranteed workstream will require greater capacity and capability in the local labour market.
