Elevate YouthBuild

back

The Elevate YouthBuild project aims to empower socially excluded young people by encouraging them to undertake vocational training. It also provides help and guidance to enhance their employment opportunities throughout Pennine Lancashire.

The project targets young women and workless people in the disadvantaged areas earmarked for Housing Market Renewal activity. In particular, it focuses on those who have under-performed during their time at school and therefore have no formally recognised qualifications. All recruited trainees, however, must show the potential to achieve an apprenticeship or other recognised construction award.

Elevate YouthBuild is operated through Accent Community Partnerships. A full time team, fully supported by Elevate, works with local construction companies and colleges to match trainees with the right job or career. A training mentor is assigned to each trainee to help him or her overcome any personal, social or work-related problems, ensuring the trainee gets the best from the employer and the employer gets the best from the trainee.

We are now supporting three cohorts of 15 people into jobs and training awards with an additional 20 places into a training or educational placement. Our YouthBuild candidates are completing a variety of activities including painting and decorating, joinery, plumbing and brickwork among others. We also have candidates now progressing to a professional qualification.
